• When the Saints go “limping” in…

Berks Catholic is considered the favorite in Section 2 of the Berks Football League, but the Saints will have to overcome some significant injuries.

Linebacker Nick Waligurski, who led B.C. in tackles last year, suffered a torn ACL while playing lacrosse.

Fellow senior Carsen Allen is out with the same injury.  Allen was the Saints’ third-leading rusher last year.  He averaged 6.6 ypc and scored ten TD’s.  Allen will also be missed in the secondary.  He was second on the team with two INT’s in 2012.

Starting linebacker Matt Reinhart is out 4-6 weeks with a hip injury.  The 6’2, 210-pound junior showed a lot of promise last season.

If that wasn’t enough, WEEU has learned that junior Dalton Hoagland was ruled ineligible by a District 3 committee after Hamburg H.S. officials would not sign off on his transfer.  At 6’3 and 240 pounds, Hoagland would’ve been the Saints’ biggest starting lineman.

Berks Catholic’s rival in Section 2, Wyomissing, is also dealing with a serious injury.  Scott McAvoy will be out for awhile, but he’s not expected to miss the entire season.  The 6’3, 205-pound senior averaged almost 9 ypc last year as a backup HB.  He also had 2 INT’s as a DB.
