Kermit Cintron was on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” on August 2nd. The Wyomissing resident earned a unanimous decision over Jonathan Batista who came into the fight with a record of (14-1). Cintron, a former welterweight champion, improved to (34-5-2). The event was held in Oklahoma.
It was not an easy fight to watch. There was plenty of grabbing and holding. The only knockdown was a controversial one. Cintron caught Batista with a short left hook in the 8th round. The announcers on ESPN thought it was a slip.
The 10th round turned into a foul fest. Batista was deducted two points for hitting behind the head and hitting on the break. Cintron was warned after pushing Batista down.
Two judges scored it 98-89. The other judge had it 99-88.
The win was an early birthday present for Cintron’s daughter.
